To use Vafra for Microsoft Windows as an UCI chess engine in Microsoft Windows Fritz chess interfaces, download a Zip package for Microsoft Windows Fritz chess interfaces, extract the Zip archive (say in '\ChessBase\Engines\Vafra\' folder) and select 'Vafra.exe' file as a new UCI chess engine ('Create UCI Engine' Microsoft Windows Fritz chess interface option). Since version 3.0.0 Vafra supports HalfKP 256x2-32-32-1 Stockfish NNUEs (which increases its playing strength). Classical Vafra is weaker than the world best chess engines (such as Stockfish, Leela, Komodo, Houdini, Rybka, Crafty, etc.). There is now only a 64-bit version of Vafra (for Microsoft Windows). Vafra can use multiple CPUs (when its chess playing strength increases). Vafra has all of its classical chess position evaluation and chess graph search parameters exposed to the end user for tuning in 'alter.cpf' Vafra personality file (predefined Vafra personality files can be selected from Microsoft Windows Fritz chess interfaces, 'Change Main Engine', 'Advanced', 'Engine Parameters', interface options) for tailoring Vafra's chess play ('alter.cpf' is a copy of 'vafra.cpf' and is there for users to try their custom set of parameters, 'alter.cpf' can be modified with Notepad). The engine can be used with Microsoft Windows Fritz chess interfaces (via Wb2Uci adaptor) as an UCI chess engine to assist in chess analysis.

It has a simple interface yet provides many features for playing against engines, running engine tournaments, and saving games in a database.Vafra for Microsoft Windows is a free (cloned from Crafty by Robert Jurjević ) Winboard chess engine. Below is a list of the most popular free chess GUIs. Free GUIsĪ few programmers have written graphical interfaces for playing chess and have generously provided them free of charge. For more information, see the User Guide. Do not use the Rated Game, Sparring, Friend Mode, or Handicap and Fun features. This is less intuitive than the slider control or “match my playing strength” features of the Shredder and Hiarcs Chess Explorer GUIs, but it’s the only way to manually set playing strength in the Fritz GUI. To play against a MadChess at reduced strength, enable the LimitStrength parameter and set the ELO parameter to a value near your rating. Deep Fritz comes with explanations of positions, automatic game analysis, danger warnings (in colour), various teachable tactics, and a dateabase consisting of no less than 1.5 million chess games. The game can adjust playing strength, coaching, handicap, training modules, endgames and more. Houdini is the current World number 1 chess engine and plays in a very romantic style.' Houdini 6: The strongest engine in the world Houdini 6 continues the impressive surge made by its predecessor by adding another 50 to 60 Elo in strength, to become once again the strongest engine that money can buy.
All of these methods use a proprietary, non-UCI Fritz engine, no matter which engine is loaded in the GUI. Deep Fritz offers a realistic chess experience.

You can extract the Update File with 7-Zip and just take the Fat Fritz 2 engines and the NNUE-Net. Fritz provides many methods to play against a weakened chess engine (Rated Game, Sparring, Friend Mode, and Handicap and Fun), none of which are enabled for UCI engines like MadChess. Chessbase offers Fat Fritz 2 as a free download Thank You Chessbase Was anyone going to buy it at the price of 99 anyway Its an update to Fritz 17, so wouldnt you need to have that program You dont need the program. However, because Fritz is a popular GUI, I will pass along this word of warning to those intending to use it to play against MadChess at reduced strength. I do not recommend Fritz because it does not support UCI_LimitStrength.
In addition to supporting UCI_LimitStrength, the Shredder GUI includes many features for running engine matches and tournaments. If you configure the GUI to automatically match your playing strength, it will set the engine’s ELO rating based on your win / draw / loss record against it.
Or you may configure the GUI to adjust playing strength automatically. You may adjust playing strength manually by moving an ELO slider control or entering an ELO rating number. Both Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) support UCI_LimitStrength, which allows you to calibrate chess engines to your playing strength. I recommend Shredder and Hiarcs Chess Explorer.
